Ashram

Do you ever find yourself knowing what a word means yet unable to describe it when asked? Ashram was my word this week. I know what it means to me yet I couldn't seem to put words to the place/experience.

For the record, an ashram s a spiritual hermitage or a monastery in Indian religions. It would traditionally, but not necessarily in contemporary times, be located far from human habitation, in forests or mountainous regions, amidst refreshing natural surroundings conducive to spiritual instruction and meditation.

My purpose was to slow down and be present. I got what I went there for and more. My friend and I were the only people there besides the staff and monks. The reason that is we happen to go on the coolest days I can remember on Texas. It was 11 degrees one night and 14 the next. Because we were out in wide open spaces and the wind was letting it's presence be know, it felt like 6 degrees. That's damn cold for this Texas girl.

I wasn't sure what to expect so I went into it with openness. I didn't know how much I'd gleaned from my 2.5 days until I got on the freeway with the speed limit of 70 mph and I was freaked out(a bit) that it was far too fast. If you know me I have no problem with speed generally. It was a sensation I hadn't experienced before.

That was one of many stories of my trip. When you see me next, ask me and I'll tell you more. I'm thinking of making this a bi-monthly adventure.

My big take away is Be Present and Live Slow.
